Julie DeNeen's Husband

This is the photo Julie sent me.  It’s really sweet, isn’t it?  Julie said he was mad because she made him cut down a big Christmas tree.

(Note: this photo is not a Creative Commons photo.  It belongs to Julie over at Life According to Julie and is used here with permission.)

Okay, well, Christmas…aww, gotta love a big, beautiful tree.

In any case, with this particular photo, I actually headed over to BeFunky.com.  (gasp!)

No, really, there were some vignette features over there I wanted to use AND I had a final vision in my head that I knew I could achieve with BeFunky.

With the final image, I wanted to highlight Andrew and really highlight his eyes, and let everything else fade into the background.

Here it is:

A DeNeen Christmas

And now, scary question (at least for me):

Which do you like better?  The original or the edited version?  (Please say the edited one…please?)

  1. Love both both, but am leaning towards your edit, because you just so have a way. Amazing as always Cyndi!! :)

  2. Julie DeNeen says:

That is EXACTLY what I was hoping you would do. I wanted more of his eyes. It.is.gorgeous. Love love love. Thank you! :)

  3. I definitely prefer the edited version! He sort of jumps out at you, and it highlights the very expressive face! (And the eyes!) Wonderful work, I will learn someday! (I hope!) My Facebook is down) Joan Veronica

  4. Amy says:

I definitely like the edited version! This one came out so cool. Hmm. Maybe I’ll be brave enough to give BeFunky at try. :)

  5. Kerry Kosky says:

The edited one…but any pic of Andrew is great…he is such a cutie!

  6. Billybuc says:

Great pics both! I can’t choose. Julie is a lucky woman; he seems like such a nice guy. Good job Cyndi.

  7. I love this Cyndi! Such a great job, and I love this addition to your blog because it really shows your talent at editing

Cyndi – You know I love you to death. This time, I’ve got to go with the original. Two reasons: 1) the complete photo tells a complete story, where the edited singles out the individual, and 2) The color in his face again tells the story of either effort or chilling air, where the edited one tends to bleach out the “realness.” I know you’ll now hate me forever, but I gotta tell the truth. Then again, every ______ has an opinion, right? : )

    • Cyndi says:

Rich – you know I love you back, but you’re a traitor. HAHAHA. No, really, that’s great feedback. I think it’s awesome that you like the original. It’s actually awesome that you talked about the “bleaching” because, as a matter of style, that is actually what I wanted to do – capture the emotion and story in his eyes. But, yeah, I see where you like the original, too. :)

That is frickin’ cool! You are one talented lady.

  10. What a great job. I am definitely going to have to check out Befunky.com sometime soon. What a fun addition to your site!

Seriously, I don’t see those lines on his forehead for being mad…lol

    Good editing, Cyndi

  12. Emily says:

Edited one — love it! Sooo cool!

  13. yeah!, what they said!

    (I go with photo#1)

  14. I prefer the original…no wait…the edited one… no the original…no..giggle. Thank you for sharing at the hop xo

  15. Gee whiz Cyndi! The second one looks awesome! Not sure what feeling I get from it, but the way you’ve made it dark around the edges and Andrew’s face is whiter, with the prickly branches around….wow – makes for a very cool image!
