GIMPED Up! – Julie’s Photo
This is the photo Julie sent me. It’s really sweet, isn’t it? Julie said he was mad because she made him cut down a big Christmas tree.
(Note: this photo is not a Creative Commons photo. It belongs to Julie over at Life According to Julie and is used here with permission.)
Okay, well, Christmas…aww, gotta love a big, beautiful tree.
In any case, with this particular photo, I actually headed over to BeFunky.com. (gasp!)
No, really, there were some vignette features over there I wanted to use AND I had a final vision in my head that I knew I could achieve with BeFunky.
With the final image, I wanted to highlight Andrew and really highlight his eyes, and let everything else fade into the background.
Here it is:
And now, scary question (at least for me):
Which do you like better? The original or the edited version? (Please say the edited one…please?)

Looking Deeper

Love both both, but am leaning towards your edit, because you just so have a way. Amazing as always Cyndi!!
Janine – hehe, they both are sweet pictures but thank you so much, Janine. (I like the edited one, too, haha)
That is EXACTLY what I was hoping you would do. I wanted more of his eyes. It.is.gorgeous. Love love love. Thank you!
Yes! Julie, thanks for that! That’s great feedback and helps me so much – I’m so glad I could capture what you were hoping for.
I definitely prefer the edited version! He sort of jumps out at you, and it highlights the very expressive face! (And the eyes!) Wonderful work, I will learn someday! (I hope!) My Facebook is down) Joan Veronica
Joan – Yes, the face, the eyes. Hehe. Exactly what i was going for. THank you!
I definitely like the edited version! This one came out so cool. Hmm. Maybe I’ll be brave enough to give BeFunky at try.
Amy – awesome! BeFunky is addictive. Be warned.
The edited one…but any pic of Andrew is great…he is such a cutie!
Kerry – aww, hehe. Thank you for your feedback.
Great pics both! I can’t choose. Julie is a lucky woman; he seems like such a nice guy. Good job Cyndi.
BB – I agree! I think he seems like a highly upright fellow and Julie is lucky.
THank you!
I love this Cyndi! Such a great job, and I love this addition to your blog because it really shows your talent at editing
Rachel – aw, thank you! I am having so much fun and thank you again for giving me that “push” to try this.
Cyndi – You know I love you to death. This time, I’ve got to go with the original. Two reasons: 1) the complete photo tells a complete story, where the edited singles out the individual, and 2) The color in his face again tells the story of either effort or chilling air, where the edited one tends to bleach out the “realness.” I know you’ll now hate me forever, but I gotta tell the truth. Then again, every ______ has an opinion, right? : )
Rich – you know I love you back, but you’re a traitor. HAHAHA. No, really, that’s great feedback. I think it’s awesome that you like the original. It’s actually awesome that you talked about the “bleaching” because, as a matter of style, that is actually what I wanted to do – capture the emotion and story in his eyes. But, yeah, I see where you like the original, too.
That is frickin’ cool! You are one talented lady.
Stephanie – you’re awesome, too! Just look at that awesome blog of yours!
What a great job. I am definitely going to have to check out Befunky.com sometime soon. What a fun addition to your site!
Stacy – with your photography skills, you’ll LOVE BeFunky!
Seriously, I don’t see those lines on his forehead for being mad…lol
Cute pix.
Good editing, Cyndi
Ruchira, haha, no I don’t think he was THAT mad, lol. Thank you!
Edited one — love it! Sooo cool!
Emily – aww, thank you!
yeah!, what they said!
(I go with photo#1)
Clark – haha, you’re funny. Now is that the ‘edited’ photo you prefer?
I prefer the original…no wait…the edited one… no the original…no..giggle. Thank you for sharing at the hop xo
Katie – haha, I know, right? Sometimes it’s hard for me to choose, too!
Gee whiz Cyndi! The second one looks awesome! Not sure what feeling I get from it, but the way you’ve made it dark around the edges and Andrew’s face is whiter, with the prickly branches around….wow – makes for a very cool image!
Melanie – aw, haha. I really like the second one, too.
